Kitchen Plumbing
The sink is the hardest-working fitting in the house, and the plumbing beneath it has to cope with hot water, grease, food waste and appliances all sharing the same pipes. Our kitchen plumber service covers kitchen sink installation, kitchen tap installation, wastes and traps, moving a sink to a new position, and connecting appliances. We also fix the leaks, drips and slow drains that build up under the sink over time.
Kitchen plumbing is part of our plumbing services. If you are replacing the whole kitchen, see our kitchen renovation service.

01Sinks
Kitchen Sink Installation
We fit and replace all the common types of kitchen sink:
- Inset (top-mounted) sinks: Dropped into a cut-out in the worktop, with the rim sitting on top. They suit laminate and wood worktops.
- Undermount sinks: Fixed beneath a stone, quartz or solid surface worktop for a clean edge. The cut-out is made by the worktop maker, and we connect the sink.
- Belfast and butler sinks: Deep ceramic sinks that sit on a base unit, often with a front on show. The unit must be suitable for the weight.
- Single, 1.5 and double bowls, with or without a drainer, in stainless steel, composite or ceramic.
Each sink is sealed to the worktop, connected to a new waste kit and trap, and tested for leaks.
02Taps
Kitchen Tap Installation
Yes, a plumber can fit kitchen taps, and we fit most types:
- Monobloc mixer taps: A single tap mixing hot and cold, the most common choice.
- Pull-out and pull-down spray taps.
- Pillar taps and bridge taps: Traditional styles, often with Belfast sinks.
- Filter and boiling water taps: These need space under the sink for a filter or tank, and boiling water taps also need a socket.
Taps are made for high or low water pressure. If your cold water comes from the mains but your hot water comes from a tank in the loft, a tap designed for high pressure may give a weak flow, so we check your system before you buy. New taps are fitted with flexible tails and isolation valves, so they can be changed or repaired later without turning off the whole house.
03Wastes and appliances
Wastes, Traps and Appliance Connections
A kitchen sink waste normally has a trap to stop smells, and often connections for a washing machine and dishwasher. We fit the waste so that appliances drain properly without siphoning water from the trap or backing up into the sink.
We connect and install kitchen appliances through our dedicated services:
- gas hob installation, gas oven installation and gas cooker installation, carried out by Gas Safe registered engineers, as the law requires
We can also run a cold supply with an isolation valve for a fridge freezer with a water dispenser or ice maker.
04Moving a sink
Do I Need a Plumber to Move a Kitchen Sink?
Yes. Moving a sink means extending or rerouting the hot and cold supplies and, more importantly, the waste. The waste needs a steady fall all the way to the drain, so the new position depends on how far it is from the outside wall, the soil stack or the gully.
- Along the same wall: Usually straightforward.
- Across the room or to an island: The waste may need to run under the floor. On a concrete floor, that can mean cutting a channel.
- Where a gravity waste is not possible: A pumped waste unit may be the answer, through our Saniflo installation service.
- New connections outside: A new gully or connection to the drains may be needed, through our drain installation and replacement service, and may need building regulations approval.
We check the waste route at the survey before you finalise your kitchen layout.
05Repairs
Kitchen Plumbing Repairs
- Leaks under the sink: Loose or failed trap joints, worn tap tails or a failed sink seal. A persistent damp cupboard floor should be checked early, before the base unit swells. Hidden leaks are traced through our leak detection and pipe repairs service.
- Dripping or stiff taps: New cartridges or a replacement tap.
- Slow or blocked sinks: Often grease and food build-up in the trap or waste. If the blockage is further down the pipe or in the drain, see our drain unblocking and cleaning service.
- Smells: A dry, damaged or siphoned trap, or a waste without enough fall.

09FAQs
Kitchen Plumbing FAQs
How much does it cost to install a kitchen sink?
It depends on the sink type (inset, undermount or Belfast), the worktop, the waste and any appliance connections. For a like-for-like replacement we can usually give a fixed price after seeing photos.
Can a plumber fit kitchen taps?
Yes. We fit mixer, pull-out, pillar, bridge, filter and boiling water taps, and check that the tap suits your water pressure first.
How much does kitchen plumbing cost?
It depends on the job, the sink and tap types, appliance connections, the waste route if the sink moves, and access. We give you a written quote before we start.
Do I need a plumber to move a kitchen sink?
Yes. The supplies and waste must be rerouted, and the waste needs a steady fall to the drain. An island sink may need an underfloor waste or a pumped unit.
Why does my kitchen sink smell?
Usually a dry or damaged trap, a waste without enough fall, or grease building up in the pipe. We can clean or replace the trap and correct the waste.
Can you connect my new appliances at the same time?
Yes. We can connect a washing machine, dishwasher or plumbed fridge freezer when we fit the sink. Gas hobs, ovens and cookers are connected by Gas Safe registered engineers, as the law requires.
