Kitchen Renovations
A kitchen renovation gives you a new kitchen in the space you already have. That could be a simple refit with new units and worktops, or a full remodel that changes the layout, moves the sink and cooker, or removes a wall to open up the room. We handle the whole job, including the strip-out, the plumbing, gas and electrics, the fitting, tiling and flooring. You deal with one team rather than a string of separate trades.
We carry out kitchen renovations as part of our renovations and refurbishments service. If you need more space as well, see our kitchen extension service.

01Refit or remodel
Kitchen Refit or Kitchen Remodel?
- Refit: New units, worktops, sink and appliances in largely the same layout. The existing plumbing, drainage and electrics are reused where they are in good condition. It is usually the quicker, simpler option.
- Remodel: A new layout, such as moving the sink to an island, relocating the cooker, adding a breakfast bar or knocking through to a dining room. It involves more plumbing, electrical and building work, and sometimes a steel beam where a wall is removed.
At the survey we look at what you want to change and advise which option fits your plans and budget.

03Order
What Order to Renovate a Kitchen
A kitchen goes together in a set sequence. Getting it right avoids damage and rework:
- 1
Design, measure and order: the layout is finalised and the kitchen is ordered early, because units, worktops and appliances often have lead times.
- 2
Strip-out: the old kitchen is removed and services are made safe.
- 3
Building work: walls are removed or altered, openings formed, and floors repaired or levelled.
- 4
First fix: new pipework, waste, gas, cables and extractor ducting go into the walls and floor.
- 5
Plastering: walls and ceilings are plastered and left to dry.
- 6
Flooring: tiled or solid floors are usually laid before the units go in.
- 7
Units: base and wall units are installed and levelled.
- 8
Worktops: laminate and timber worktops are fitted. Stone and quartz worktops are templated once the base units are in, then fitted when they are made.
- 9
Second fix: sink, taps, appliances, sockets and lights are connected and tested.
- 10
Splashbacks and decorating: tiling, sealing and painting finish the room.
04Building regulations
Do I Need Building Regulations for a New Kitchen?
Not usually for a like-for-like refit, where the old units are replaced in the same layout. You will need building regulations approval or certification for parts of the work if the renovation includes:
- New electrical circuits: For example, a new cooker or induction hob circuit. These are notifiable and must be certified.
- Gas work: Any new or moved gas appliance or pipework must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
- Structural changes: Removing a load-bearing wall needs a steel beam designed by a structural engineer, and approval.
- Drainage changes: New connections to the drains may need approval.
- Ventilation: Kitchens need extraction, and the ventilation requirements apply to new work.
- Windows or doors: Replacement windows or glazed doors must meet the regulations.
We make sure every part of your kitchen that needs approval or a certificate is covered, so you have the paperwork when you sell.

How Long Does a Kitchen Renovation Take?
A like-for-like refit is the quickest. A remodel with layout changes, a knocked-through wall or a stone worktop, which must be templated once the units are in, takes longer. The biggest factor is often the lead time for the kitchen and worktops, so ordering early matters. Your quote includes a programme, and we can help you set up a temporary kitchen while the work is done.

09FAQs
Kitchen Renovation FAQs
How much does a kitchen renovation cost in London?
It depends mainly on whether it is a refit or a remodel, the units and worktops you choose, any structural work, and the electrics, gas and plumbing needed. We give you a fixed, itemised quote after a free survey.
How long does a kitchen renovation take?
A like-for-like refit is the quickest. Remodels, structural work and stone worktops take longer. Kitchen lead times are often the biggest factor, so we plan the order early.
Do I need building regulations for a new kitchen?
Not usually for a like-for-like refit. You will need approval or certification for new electrical circuits, gas work, structural changes, some drainage changes and ventilation.
What order should a kitchen be renovated in?
Design and order, strip out, carry out building work, first fix the services, plaster, lay the floor, fit the units and worktops, second fix, then tile and decorate.
Can I supply my own kitchen?
Yes. We can fit a kitchen you have bought, or arrange the units and worktops for you. We check the design and measurements before ordering.
Can I stay at home during a kitchen renovation?
Yes. The rest of the house is usually unaffected. We can help you set up a temporary kitchen, for example with a microwave, kettle and fridge in another room, while the work is done.
